Jedi Day! May The Fourth Be With You...

Bahahahahahahahahaha.... I know you're laughing. You know a good (if a little cheesy) pun when you see one.

This Tuesday is May the 4th, also known as Jedi Day, and what better way to celebrate than with Adam Page and the Death Stars performing their musical tribute to the much loved sci-fi trilogy. (The original ones - like me, I don't think these guys count the newish 'prequels', with their superior technology, poor scripts and terrible casting...)

It only happens once a year, so be there early to secure your ticket. Otherwise you'll have to wait a whole year for the next one. Which is far, far away...

An aside. I have to mention the art work you casually glossed over in your excitment to scroll down the page. It is the work of the great James Fosdike, the creative force behind Visualante. Now THAT'S a pun, minus the cheese.

The New Cabal @ La Boheme
EVERY WEDNESDAY!
FREE!
wow!

For the past 9 months or so, original jazz quartet The New Cabal have had a Wednesday night residence at the quaint Parisian styled 'La Boheme' (on grote st, opposite the central market). The band is made up of the cream of Adelaide's jazz scene, with band leader Lyndon Gray (5 String Double Bass), Chris Martin (Keys), Chris Soole (Sax) and Kevin van der Zwaag (Drums). Having been a frequent patron of this fine event, I can say that each night is unique and that the repertoire is diverse and absorbing. The band plays music written by each of the members in more or less equal measure, so there's bound to be something for fans of any genre of jazz or contemporary music. The gig kicks off around 9pm and they finish off their second set at about 11pm, which makes for perfect mid-week (read: school night) listening! And it's free, which means more money left for some damn fine cocktails...

COMA Hipnote Sessions

On the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each and every month, COMA (Creative Original Music Adelaide for long) host some mighty fine local talent. This happens at the Wheatsheaf in Thebarton - one of the best live music pubs in Adelaide (if not the whole wide world!).

There are 2 acts on at each event, with almost as much musical variety as the Wheatie has beer and whisky. And that's a damn lot! This week features a jazz heavy lineup, with the fusion driven 'Unbridled Sax Axe', and Adelaide expat Pat Thiele's Melbourne band 'Elbow Grease'.

Doors open at 8pm, cost is still only $8, or $5 if you are a COMA member. For more details visit www.coma.net.au
